4 Teeth-friendly Summer Snacks

Are you looking for a healthy summer treat to beat the heat? Longmont CO dentist Dr. Amy Farmer has good news for parents looking for snacks that the entire family can enjoy without any regret. Here, she shares a few teeth-friendly snacks you can enjoy this summer.

1. Fruit Kebobs

Fruit kebobs are an easy and creative way to make sure your kids get their daily serving of fruits. Cut up bananas, cantaloupe and strawberries into bite-sized portions. Add grapes, kiwi or any other of your favorite fruits. Thread alternating chunks of fruit onto skewers and serve as an afternoon summer snack.

2. Frozen Yogurt Bites

Frozen yogurt dots are the perfect healthy alternative to ice cream. Like other dairy products, yogurt contains calcium that promotes strong teeth. Begin by pouring a cup of yogurt into a plastic sandwich bag. Cut off one of the corners and squeeze the yogurt from the bag into drops on a baking sheet. Freeze the yogurt drops for at least 30 to 40 minutes.

3. Celery with Peanut Butter and Raisins

Not only is celery nutritious, it also helps rinse away bacteria from the mouth, promoting good oral health. For a fun and delicious spin, combine celery with peanut butter and raisins. Although raisins contain sugar, they are a far healthier alternative to candy. Prepare this treat by cutting celery stalks in half and lathering peanut butter on top. Sprinkle a few raisins on the celery and enjoy.

4. Watermelon Popsicles

A summer staple, watermelon also helps with saliva production and rinses bacteria from the mouth. You can enjoy watermelon the old fashioned way or if you prefer, you can cut watermelon into slices, insert a Popsicle stick into the slices and place them in the freezer.

Schedule a Routine Dental Checkup
